The Centre for Transport Research (CTR) is a research centre of the Department of Geography and Environment within the School of Geosciences and acts as the focus for transport research at the University of Aberdeen. The Centre’s mission is:
“to develop a leading research centre of international excellence and reputation in Aberdeen specialising in the sustainability of transport systems with emphasis on environment, society and technology”
The Centre is initially focusing on two broad themes Transport, Energy and Environment and Transport and Society.

25th November: The CTR Research Seminar Series for 2009-2010 continues on Wed 25th Nov at 1pm in G15, St Mary’s. The next seminar is by Dr Yusak Susilo (Senior Lecturer, The Centre for Transport and Society, University of the West of England), on ‘Good intentions + sustainable residential schemes = sustainable travel pattern?’ ALL WELCOME. 17th November: Applications are invited for the post of Research Fellow to work in the area of Accessibility and Mobilities within the Rural Digital Economy Research Hub at the University of Aberdeen. Digital Economy is an RCUK cross-council programme, aimed at realising the transformational impact of ICT for all aspects of business, society and economy. The Aberdeen Hub is focussing on Transforming Rural Communities Through Digital Innovation. For further details, see: www.digital-rural.org. 2nd October: Christian Wolmar, a writer and broadcaster specialising in transport, has been appointed to an Honorary Research Fellowship in CTR. He has spent nearly all of his working life as a journalist, and was at The Independent from 1989 to 1997, mostly as transport correspondent. Christian has become one of the UK’s leading commentators on transport matters and has won several awards for his work. Christian’s new book on how the railways changed the world, Blood, Iron and Gold is to be published in September by Atlantic Books (see http://www.christianwolmar.co.uk/books/ )
4th September: Dr Mark Beecroft has been appointed Lecturer in Transport Studies at the Centre for Transport Research at the University of Aberdeen starting on October 14th. He is currently a Senior Research Fellow in the Transportation Research Group at the University of Southampton. At Aberdeen he will be looking to develop his research and teaching interests in the fields of transport policy, transport and society, transport futurology and intelligent transport systems.
