Help with MyCurriculum - Waivers

Frequently Asked Questions

In some instances you will, exceptionally, been granted a waiver to allow you to take the higher level compulsory course. You will know that you have been given a waiver as the words "Prerequisite Waiver Applied" will appear next to the course title on the MyCurriculum screen.

If you have not already been granted a waiver, the options available to you are:

  1. transfer to a programme where you hold the necessary prerequisites for the courses;
  2. seek a waiver to allow you to take the higher level compulsory course; or
  3. retake or resit the prerequisite course (This may involve you repeating all or part of your previous academic year.)

To apply for a prerequisite waiver, please complete a waiver form and send to the relevant School contact.

Please note that:

  • a waiver will only be granted where there is good reason for your failure to pass the prerequisite course, and
  • you are still required to pass the prerequisite course before graduating.

You are not able to take a non-compulsory course without holding the necessary prerequisite(s) and must choose another course instead.

..., but there really is no other optional course I would like to take, what should I do?

The University for academic reasons does not recommend that students take optional courses for which they do not have the pre-requisites. In exceptional circumstances, however, you may apply for a waiver to allow you to take the course. To apply for a prerequisite waiver, please complete a waiver form and send it to the relevant school

Please note: There is no guarantee that you will be given a pre-requisite waiver and you should look for alternative courses to study should your request be refused.
