This course provides an opportunity for students to reflect on their employability and professional development through a part-time job, placement, personal development project or volunteering activity based within the UK. These experiences must be organised by the student by the second week of semester or have been undertaken within the previous year.
Students work towards a range of personal and work-related outcomes through a range of assessments including an employability portfolio and a poster presentation session. All external engagement activities require the approval of the School and must be verified by the external organisation.

The Professional Skills and Work Experience in Psychology course has been designed to enhance students’ employability through a range of lectures covering reflective writing; CVs and cover letters; post graduate applications and interview techniques.
In this course students will have the opportunity to apply for a mock job to experience the job application process (CV, cover letter and mock interview), and present a poster at the end of the term on their internship experiences.
The course has been set up to run directly after a summer internship/placement, or alongside an internship/placement during winter term. Internships can either be self-organised by the student or applied for as part of one of the School’s placement schemes during their third year to run over the summer. All self-organised internships/placements must be approved by the School Internship Coordinator.
By taking this course, students will develop a portfolio of employability skills that they can use in subsequent real-world job interviews.
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.
