This is an intensive, interdisciplinary two-week Summer School course hosted by DHPA and the Go Abroad Team that will introduce students to the history and culture of modern Scotland.
The Summer School will also include local visits and social events that will provide students with an opportunity to experience the culture and history of the north-east of Scotland.

This course will introduce students to the history and culture of modern Scotland from the seventeenth century through a series of twelve classes and extra-curricular activities.
Facilitated by staff from across the four disciplines in DHPA, this course will cover a wide range of subjects including the political unions in the seventeenth century, the Jacobite tradition, the Scottish Enlightenment, Tartan, the nineteenth century clearances, religious revivals, the monarchy, sport and culture and Scottish contemporary women artists, to name but a few.
Hosted by the Go Abroad Team, the course will also include local walking tours, visits to the Aberdeen Art Gallery, Culloden, Dunnottar Castle, Glamis Castle, King’s Chapel and St Machar Cathedral, and will provide opportunities for students to enjoy local fish and chips, whisky tasting and Scottish Country Dancing.
