This course aims to boost confidence in interactions with English language learners by giving a basic understanding of the English language, selecting engaging activities, planning productive and receptive activities and correcting errors. You will be expected to get ready for on-campus workshops by completing online content and preparing activities to try on your peers.
The course opens opportunities for those who are interested in working with English language learners; possible contexts include language assistants, summer school posts, volunteering/teaching with learners in the UK or abroad.

As you prepare for the presentation assessment, the course will focus on challenges English language learners may face.

750-1,000 words. Portfolio of materials from learning activities, notes on how the activity went and suggested improvements. Practical activities are carried out in weeks 4, 5, 6 and 7 of the course so content and feedback can be added continuously. |

Length: 10 minutes + Q&A Students are given an English language learner profile and a video of them speaking – Students identify errors and present on suggested activities to help with these Marking will be done using a rubric and feedback will also be provided in the “feedback to learners” box on MyAberdeen |

5 x multiple-choice quiz based on aspects of the English language system (5% weighting each). Each quiz would have 10 questions with a 0.5% weighting on each question. |
