Course Overview

The overall learning aim (goal) of this course is to equip students with the foundational academic practice skills for studying business. The course will identify key areas of Academic Practice and consider how students can use and develop these within their studies as they progress through their four year programme. It will equip students with the knowledge and practical skills needed for studying at the HE level and act as a building block for all other courses. This course teaches knowledge and develops key transferable skills.

Course Description

The course will begin with an overview of Academic Practice and what studying at University level means, the type of learning and teaching that will take place and the way that students should develop their writing skills. Every week will build upon these skills and include areas such as Researching and Managing Information for study; Critical Thinking; Constructing Academic Arguments; Reflective Learning; Time Management and working collaboratively with others. Students will, through the lectures and tutorials, consider the different ways to apply these skills across the courses that they are studying, not only at this level of their study, but as their programme develops.
