Course Overview

The Access Psychology Course is delivered at SCQF Level 7 and provides a foundation for undergraduate study. The course covers key topics in Psychology: The scientific method; qualitative and quantitative research methods; cognition; individual differences; social psychology, developmental psychology and biological psychology. It will also introduce students to academic life and foster the general literacy, numeracy and critical thinking skills required to succeed in Higher Education.

Course Description

Access Psychology is a flexible, online course. 

Delivered 100% online, you can study anywhere you have internet access. Available 24/7, all year round, you can enrol whenever you like and study at your own pace. It is designed to help you access university when you don’t have the qualifications you need or wish to learn more about the study of Psychology before starting university.

The Access Psychology course will cover key topics in Psychology as outlined by our governing body, the British Psychological Society (BPS). Topics include the scientific method, cognition and individual differences, as well as social, developmental and biological psychology.

Skills and learning outcomes will be embedded in the materials and activities, including understanding of the research process and key topics in psychology.

Access Psychology aims to:

  • Introduce key psychological concepts and theories.
  • Introduce methodological approaches that can be used in Psychology.
  • Provide opportunities to learn how to plan and design psychological research studies to answer a research question.
