Minerals to Mountains takes you on a journey from the atomic level right up to the Solar Systems largest Mountain. Through a largely practical course, we use petrology and mineralogy of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks to understand all scales of physical Earth processes.

Minerals to Mountains takes you on a journey from the atomic level right up to the Solar Systems largest Mountain. Through a largely practical course, we use petrology and mineralogy of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks to understand all scales of physical Earth processes.
The course has a strong practical component and involves the preparation of workbooks based on individual study and practical exercises that use hand specimens, microscope work and chemical data.
We will study:
Chemical Composition of Earth as a planetary body.
Composition and structure of the common rock-forming minerals and what they tell us about Earth processes.
Processes and environments of rock formation.
All of these are tied to understanding wider tectonic processes.
