The course is designed to introduce students to understanding and knowledge and to develop critical awareness across areas of criminology and policing, and specifically the complex interface between policing and contemporary society.

The course will identify key issues and address major debates surrounding contemporary policing policy and practice in Britain. The course will examine the key concepts, theories, values and ideas guiding policing organisations in the United Kingdom to better understand the connections between policing and law enforcement and understanding of contemporary issues and challenges in policing in different contexts.
Police accountability, legitimacy, and public trust in the police will be examined and reviewed against the legal framework and processes currently in place to gain insight and knowledge into contemporary issues and challenges in policing.

48 hour Online, Open Book Exam comprising 2 questions. Two written answers approx. 1250 words per answer . Individual feedback will be provided on MyAberdeen in the course submission. The exam will be accessible for a period of 48 hours but timed within that period i.e once started must be completed within a set period of time to be determined in line with other online exams on this programme |
