This course is intended for students who have studied French to Higher or equivalent level. It will enable them to consolidate and extend their knowledge of French, written and spoken. It lays equal emphasis on reading, writing, listening and speaking, and in general insists as much on accuracy as on fluency. It presents certain advanced grammatical structures and introduces techniques of translation. It also offers students opportunities to improve their communication skills through group work, discussion and presentations. The course consists of four timetabled weekly hours: one grammar lecture; one written language hour; an oral language hour; a listening hour. In addition, students follow a structured programme of private study, including both listening and grammatical material.
