MU3528: TANGO MUSIC (2021-2022)

Last modified: 31 May 2022 13:05

Course Overview

Tango music has undergone huge changes, particularly over the past 50 years or so with composer/performers such as Astor Piazzolla bringing the music of the tango out of milonga halls and into concert halls. The course will cover social, historical and analytical aspects of the music and students will create and perform their own tango music, following an immersion in all aspects of the music.

Assessment will be through regular in-class and take-away compositional exercises, a composition assignment devised by the student in conjunciton with the course tutor and a performance event devised by the group for which each student will receive an individual mark for their contribution to the performance (30%) as well as a generic mark for the whole group for the devising of the event (15%).
