This course offers students an excellent opportunity to acquire foundational skills in music technology from sound recording for ensembles and orchestras to the technology-based compositions and sound design for games using digital audio workstation software. The course content is entirely project-based, and upon the successful completion of the course, students will become well-versed in the intermediate-level skills in music technology and well-prepared for advanced music technology courses in the 3rd and 4th year.

Following MU1538 Digital Musicianship, the introductory music technology course () in the 1st year, this course builds on the basic skillset in music technology and helps students to develop and further their skillset in recording, processing and mastering their music and sound design projects using a variety of music technology hardware and software available at the department of music. The focus of this course is both on the consolidation of the basic skills in music technology and on the advancement of these skills so that the students can prepare themselves in the music technology-related job market. This course is entirely project-based, meaning that the whole course content is geared towards helping students to create a portfolio of projects, ranging from recording projects for solo performances, ensembles or orchestras to music and sound design projects for film and games. This course is a steppingstone course for those who are interested in designing their undergraduate coursework towards a music technology-focused career, such as composers, sound designers or other content creators for moving images and new media like games.
