Course Description

To provide specialised advanced content on phase diagrams, catalysis, environmental aspects and refinery processes for Oil and Gas Chemistry students. At the end of the course, a student should be able to: construct simple phase diagrams to illustrate the principles of fractionation; identify suitable catalysts for key petrochemical processes and describe their mode of action; identify and discuss industrial approaches to environmental protection; describe the chemistry involved in various strategies for converting natural gas to liquid products.   Content: distillation thermodynamics; catalysis; environmental protection; sources of natural gas (conventional and unconventional); gas to liquids options.
