Course Description

The aim of this course is to introduce new Honours students in Philosophy to core research methods and skills in the discipline. To do so, students will propose, plan, research and write a 4000 word Junior Honours dissertation. In the first six weeks of the course students will also be required to attend weekly workshops on a variety of general academic and discipline specific research skills, including research project design and management, navigating and engaging with academic literature, developing and communicating philosophical arguments, citation and plagiarism, and library and research resources. By the end of this six week period, student present an outline of their project to a dissertation supervisor for approval, and will work with their supervisor (who will be familiar with the current research in the area) to bring the final dissertation to completion.
