Course Overview

Building on work done in MN 1501 this intensive language course, which forms part of the Sustained Study Programme, will further develop all four basic language skills, reading, writing, speaking and listening. Classes on grammatical and linguistic analysis will contribute to the development of these skills. It covers a good deal of ground in the four class hours a week, and requires considerable effort and self-study to consolidate new vocabulary, grammar and Chinese characters (hànzì).

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt

  • Examination (60%)
  • In-class test, consisting of listening and speaking elements (20%)
  • Two homework exercises (20%)

Formative Assessment

3 formative assessments of different aspects of written Chinese language; plus 1 formative assessment of aural Chinese language; and 1 formative assessment of oral Chinese language.

Feedback

Additional informal feedback on performance is also given in written language classes; oral classes; aural classes; and reading comprehension/composition classes.
