This is an 11-week course in the modern Scottish Gaelic language for students who have completed GH1007 Gaelic for Beginners 1A.
You will attend three interactive language classes and one conversation class each week, as well as undertaking self-directed learning.
By the end of the course you will be expected to have mastered a large working vocabulary and to be competent in understanding and using most of the major structures of the language.

The course will concentrate on the acquisition of essential grammar and vocabulary and will build on previous knowledge to further develop ability across all four linguistic skills. In the language classes, students will learn the structures, vocabulary, sounds and writing system of Gaelic. In the oral class, students will have an opportunity to practise speaking, develop their vocabulary further, and listen to a native speaker.
This course may not be taken by students who qualify for Gaelic Language 1B or any other more advanced courses.

1st Attempt: 1 two-hour examination (60%); Continuous written assessment (20%); Aural/oral assessment (20%).
3 formative assessments on different aspects of written Gaelic language, including 2 home-work exercises and 1 in-class test. These three pieces of work will form the basis of the 20% continuous assessment. The oral assessment (20%) will be based on an oral skills test.
The above assessments are given CAS marks and written feedback. General verbal feedback is given in class. Additional written and/or verbal feedback is given on an individual basis as required.
