The aim of the course is to develop students' vocabulary and knowledge of German and their stylistic awareness, to provide students with the ability to analyse literary works, including film adaptations, and to apply all these skills to the study of modern texts selected for their literary importance and relevance to modern German society. The texts and lectures complement those of GM 2543. This course may be taken on its own or together with GM 2040 or GM 2042.

The course consists of lectures and tutorials in which students generate and discuss ideas about the texts and the frameworks within which they are studied.
