This course gives students the chance to carry out independent study in an area of professional interest and professional context. Students negotiate their learning outcomes and goals based on learning priorities and professional requirements and then undertake the study. On completion they evaluate whether their learning outcomes have been met and evaluate their own learning.

The Negotiated Study 3 course encourages autonomy, independent and critical thought, negotiation, planning, management and creative skills. Students are supported by a tutor (with whom they negotiate the content) and, where appropriate, other class members. Assessment is by a 3000 word report or equivalent. It is a 15 credit level 9 distance learning course, although there is a requirement to attend some face-to-face and online workshops.
To undertake this course participants ideally should be employed in a relevant professional context or be able to access one. Voluntary work is acceptable. Contact the course co-ordinator if in doubt about suitability for access.
