Course Description

Aims

This programme aims to engage learner in taking a critical overview of their own practice, taking account of the requirements within the Scottish Education system, current policy and curriculum drivers that impact on professional practice of teachers.

Outcomes

The expected outcomes of study are to:

  • undertake a systematic process of self-analysis of practice as an inclusive practitioner

  • critically analyse principles and perspectives to inform professional values and practice

  • demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development through professional enquiry

  • design and implement professional enquiry to undertake a small-scale review of personal professional practice based on action research principles

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 31 August 2023 for 1st half-session courses and 22 December 2023 for 2nd half-session courses.

Summative Assessments

1st Attempt

  • Folio-based evidence of meeting the professional standards (50%):
    • Self-evaluation of planned learning from ten-minute video of practice - using LOCIT as a reflective tool
    • Peer observation of practice in meeting a professional challenge
    • Observation against SPR from line manager in the School
    • Reflective commentary or presentation to identify steps for ongoing development (based on portfolio evidence)
  • 3000-word written reflective assignment on addressing a professional challenge to enhance learning, drawing from evidence from the e-portfolio and further reading to justify the choice of challenge and the identification on ongoing professional learning.

Resit

  • Resubmission of any of the above assessment elements.

Formative Assessment

Peer and tutor feedback within online discussion (peer responses) and reflection on evidence of practice (as demonstrated through video uploaded to LOCIT)
