Course Description

The course is located within the theological field of Practical Theology. It aims to explore the connection between spirituality, health and healing primarily but not exclusively within the context of the Christian tradition. It explores spirituality, health and healing  within a variety of heath care contexts (religious communities, healthcare facilities, community care, culture and society) with a view to developing theoretical and practical understandings of key issues. The course is multi- disciplinary in its orientation, seeking to draw together theology, medicine, psychology and other disciplines involved in the practices of spirituality, health and healing. In line with its multidisciplinary aims, it involves students from the humanities and students studying medicine. Areas covered will include: theological perspectives on health and healing, psychiatry and religion; human disability and the nature of health, spirituality and dementia, end of life care, chaplaincy and spirituality in medicine.
