The course provides students with an overview of the concepts and practice of regeneration and economic development throughout the UK and beyond. It examines the, often, dramatic transformations of our urban (and some rural) landscapes and covers a breadth of contemporary topics such as flagship urban projects, sustainability, partnership working, place marketing, tourism, culture led regeneration and creative urban design etc. Theory and practice is looked at in projects from the UK, Europe and Americas.

Subjects studied range from the origins of decline and its physical and socio-economic implications, to current case studies highlighting creative and competitive solutions taken from the UK and overseas. Content will include topics such as the role of the arts, culture and tourism in creative cities through to the role of the development industry and sustainable development projects in rural locations.
