Course Overview

This course aims to support students in developing the necessary skills to undertake an applied project. Students will be encouraged to undertake independent study, research, and project planning in the topic area of their thesis. To support this process, the course will include interactive sessions aimed to build their skills and confidence with critically reviewing the literature, developing an applied research question, time and project management, together with written and verbal communication. Students will also receive and provide peer support and feedback.

Course Description

How will this course be taught?
This in-person course will be delivered primarily via interactive seminar sessions on the Old Aberdeen campus. Students will also be provided with learning exercises, and recommended reading to support their studies.

What does this course cover?
This course is designed to guide students through the process of developing a range of applied projects. Skills developed on the course will include writing effective project proposals, reviewing literature, enhancing library-skills, developing written and verbal communication skills, project management and critical thinking. By the end of the course, students should feel confident with the process of developing a project rationale, including research questions, alongside selecting the best methodology to answer those questions.
