This course examines the principles and methods of assessment used to evaluate psychological functioning and mental health such as through clinical and/or behavioural testing. In addition to theoretical foundations, students will learn practical techniques such as observation, standardized testing, and interviewing. The course explores how these tools contribute to understanding an individual’s presentation such as through cognitive, emotional, or behavioural function.
The course will provide a foundation for the application of assessment methods in diverse settings, including clinical, educational, and/or research contexts. Students will also gain an understanding of the ethical considerations of sharing outcomes with professional audiences such as clinical psychologists, educators, and researchers.
By the end of the course, students will develop critical skills in selecting and applying assessment methods, interpreting outcomes, and integrating this information into meaningful psychological formulations.
