Course Overview

This course aims to introduce students to, and support them in developing, the professional skills necessary for competent and compassionate psychology practitioners in applied domains. The course will cover a range of relevant topics including professional ethics, legal and professional obligations, management of workplace issues, interacting with stakeholders and developing professional relationships.

Course Description

How will this course be taught?
This in-person course will be delivered primarily by lectures and workshops on the Old Aberdeen campus. You will be provided with real world case studies, learning exercises, and recommended reading (drawn from the latest research and professional practice).

What does this course cover?
The course will introduce and discuss concepts relevant to professional applied psychology practice, encompassing both industrial and mental health contexts. Core topics that will be covered include: interacting with stakeholders, developing professional relationships, legal and practical obligations, professional ethics, project and conflict management.

Why should I take this course?
This course provides the building blocks for developing a professional applied career in Psychology, equipping students with the skills they will use post-graduation.

2,500-word Individual report.

The assessment will comprise evaluation of a professional scenario, with the aim of identifying the key issues, and producing recommendations to deal with those issues. The students will be provided with an assessment brief and will submit their work via Turnitin. A marking rubric and Turnitin quickmarks will be used to provide feedback.
