Course Overview

This course will introduce students to ways of approaching European and Latin American Literatures and Cultures at an advanced level. These include psychoanalysis and its legacy, the idea of Latin America, and decolonization. Students will be equipped to apply these concepts to a wide range of contexts.

Course Description

This course will introduce students to ways of approaching European and Latin American Literatures and Cultures at an advanced level. The course is structured around particular thinkers and ideas, which originate in specific regional and linguistic contexts, but which have had global resonances. These include psychoanalysis, from its origins in Vienna at the end of the nineteenth century to its continuing worldwide legacy, the idea of Latin America through the ages, and decolonization in European, Francophone, and Spanish-language contexts. Students will be equipped to apply the concepts and theories that they explore on the course to wide-ranging texts and visual media.

Feedback

The presentation, delivered in class, should be of circa 20 minutes duration.  All presentations receive grades and are discussed individually within no more than 2 weeks. Tutors have student hours at which further feedback may be sought.
