Structured around weekly seminars, the course simulates the development of an arts project, from initial proposal to a formal funding pitch, covering essential components for project success. In the first half, students will delve into diverse artistic responses to specific themes—ranging from art-science collaborations and rural residencies in Aberdeenshire to practice-based research on oil’s cultural impact and urban art initiatives. These sessions, supplemented by readings, screenings, and site visits, aim to broaden students’ understanding of arts management practices and inspire group responses to a Call for Proposals. After the Week 6 seminar, the focus shifts to designing, and developing project proposals, creating content and presenting your projects. This enables students to apply theoretical insights and practical strategies to their own creative concepts. The course will be assessed by a group project, presented in a final funding pitch, and a reflective essay in which students will reflect on their involvement and learning in the project and its overall success.
