"Museum Professional Practice" critically considers professional practices of museum work. It focuses on collections management, care, documentation, ethics, public engagement and funding. The course is taught by a team of academic and professional staff, making use of the University's museums, including exhibitions, collections and conservation facilities and activities.

"Museum Professional Practice" is a partner to “The Museum Idea: Critical Histories, Contemporary Challenges”, considering how theory is put into practice. It will look at three areas of museum work: professionalism, collections management, and public engagement. This will include sessions focusing on codes of ethics, collections care and conservation, museum documentation, exhibitions, learning in museums and public programmes.
The course will be taught be a team who all have professional experience of working in museums, and will use the collections and facilities of University Collections to give a behind-the-scenes insight into a museum service.
The 2000-word assessment gives students the opportunity to complete a funding application form, with an accompanying reflective report.
