Course Description

The course will give students an overview of the University through the Orientation topic as well as introducing the concepts and importance of health & safety, cyber security, academic integrity, and equality & diversity awareness. It will also offer students the opportunity to assess, record, reflect on, and build their skills during their time at University through the MySkills framework.

Main Learning Outcomes

The course will comprise overall topic learning outcomes to enable students to:

1. Understand the range of support, services and facilities available throughout their time at the University.
2. Understand the importance of academic integrity and ensure you avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism, collusion, and contract cheating, by submitting your own work for assessments.
3. Understand the importance of skills development and how you can use the MySkills platform to enhance your skills while at the University.
4. Understand the concept of equality and diversity and how it affects themselves and others.
5. Understand and implement health, safety and cyber security guidelines, policies and procedures.

Course Content

The course consists of the following 5 topics:

Topic 1: University of Aberdeen Orientation programme
• Understand the range of support, services and facilities available throughout your time at the University.

Topic 2: Academic Integrity and Referencing
• Understand the importance of academic integrity and ensure you avoid the pitfalls of plagiarism, collusion and contract cheating, by submitting your own work for assessments.

Topic 3: MySkills
• Understand the importance of skills development and how you can use the MySkills platform to enhance your skills while at the University.

Topic 4: Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion
• Understand the concept of equality and diversity and how it affects yourself and others.

Topic 5: Health, Safety and Cyber Security for Students
• Understand and implement health, safety and cyber security guidelines, policies and procedures.

The course will involve 4 multiple choice quizzes which the student will gain access to once the materials are completed. The student must achieve 16/20 in each quiz to successfully pass the course. The quizzes can be attempted multiple times.
