Worker performance, well-being and safety are of great importance to organisations. This course will explore factors such as workplace conflict, stress, fatigue, safety culture and risk normalisation to enable students to understand the core aspects that could impact performance, well-being and safety at work. These factors will be discussed in the context of a variety of high-risk industries, including aviation, forestry, healthcare and offshore drilling, including evaluation of real-life case studies. Students will also learn management and support strategies to enhance performance and safety at work.

How will this course be taught?
This in-person course will be delivered primarily through seminars on the Old Aberdeen campus. You will also be provided with online materials such as real world case studies, learning exercises, and recommended reading (drawn from the latest research and industrial papers).
What does this course cover?
The course will introduce and discuss the concepts of work performance, safety and well-being. Core factors that can impact performance and safety at work will be discussed each week, including workplace conflict (encompassing incivility, bullying and harassment), stress, fatigue, safety culture, risk perception and risk normalisation. Each section of the course will draw on the latest psychological and human factors research.
