Course Overview

This course, which is prescribed for all taught postgraduate students, is studied entirely online, takes approximately 5-6 hours to complete and can be taken in one sitting, or spread across a number of weeks.

Topics include orientation overview, equality and diversity, health, safety and cyber security and how to make the most of your time at university in relation to careers and employability.

Successful completion of this course will be recorded on your Enhanced Transcript as ‘Achieved’.

Course Description

Course Aims

The course will give students an overview of the University’s Orientation course as well as introducing the concepts and importance of health, safety and cyber security and equality & diversity awareness. It will also offer students the opportunity to plan their development of the Aberdeen Graduate Attributes alongside their studies through engaging in co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities.

Main Learning Outcomes

The course will comprise overall topic learning outcomes to enable students to:

  1. Understand the range of support, services and facilities available throughout their time at the University.
  2. Understand the concept of Aberdeen Graduate Attributes and how they can be developed through engagement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities.
  3. Understand the concept of equality and diversity and how it affects themselves and others.
  4. Understand and implement health, safety and cyber security guidelines, policies and procedures. 

Course Content

The course consists of the following 4 topics:

  1. Introduction to the University of Aberdeen Orientation programme
  2. Developing your Aberdeen Graduate Attributes
  3. Understanding Equality and Diversity Issues
  4. Health, Safety and Cyber Security for Students

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

The course will involve 4 multiple choice quizzes which the student will gain access to once the materials are completed. The student must achieve 16/20 in each quiz to successfully pass the course. The quizzes can be attempted multiple times.
