GL5913: PROJECTS IN ENERGY GEOSCIENCE (2022-2023)

Last modified: 31 Jul 2023 11:19

Course Overview

In the final project you are expected to undertake and complete a study of a subsurface problem applicable to the energy industry. The project is an extended, independent, self-directed, piece of practical work integrating and reinforcing the material taught on the programme, and giving a detailed insight into the demands of, and ways of working in the energy industry. The project forms a major part of the MSc’s employability strategy.

Course Description

The project is the culmination of the previous taught courses of the Integrated Petroleum Geoscience and/or Sustainable Energy Geoscience MSc. It will require integration of different technical elements and assumes a general knowledge of subsurface geology.

The project subject can be from any discipline relating to energy geosciences and should address a research problem that is original and has not been worked on before.

We have an excellent record with local energy companies for working on highly topical and relevant projects. Commonly, the projects are constructed around current problems the companies consider deserve attention, but for which they are short of personnel. These projects usually are of a research nature, and without exception are entirely original and have not been worked on before. It is common, but not essential, that the student work on their projects in the offices of the company which offered the topic and which is providing the data.
