HI502T: ENGAGING WITH HISTORIOGRAPHY (2021-2022)

Last modified: 31 May 2022 13:05

Course Overview

Students work closely with a member of staff to develop a detailed knowledge of and write a critical survey of the literature in their chosen field. This helps students develop research skills required for the literature review in the dissertation, but will be much broader in scope to ensure they have a secure grasp of the relevant research in their field. The course enhances students' ability to identify and engage critically with a body of literature and improve their skills in academic writing appropriate to postgraduate work.

Course Description

Students will work closely
with an individual member of staff to develop a detailed knowledge of the
literature in their chosen field. They will write a historiographical essay
critically surveying the state of the field in their chosen area. They will
have an individual supervision meeting to discuss and develop their proposed
list of key works, and a further meeting to provide feedback on the submitted
assignment. This will help students develop research skills required for the
literature review in the dissertation, but will be much broader in scope to
ensure they have a secure grasp of the relevant research in their field.
