Course Description

It is the student’s responsibility to secure the internship opportunity with a relevant company. A minimum of 150 hours of relevant work experience is required.

A Practice Research Report is to be completed following the internship and will take the form of a professional report (maximum 9,000 words), along with a critical reflection on the learning journey (maximum 1,000 words).

It is expected that this report will be underpinned by rigorous and critical examination of the existing literature in the field. The Practice Research Report may be based around a topic that has been pre-identified and possibly partly pre-constructed in your internship environment and framed around an issue of operational relevance to the internship provider.

Key relevant data may be readily available from or through the internship and the outcome of the study may have direct relevance to the internship provider, although this is not a requirement.

The student will be required to specify the scope of their research enquiry and once this has been agreed, submit a critical literature review at a mid-point in the module. The literature review will be worth 25% of the overall work (max 2,500 words).

The full Practice Research Report and critical reflection will be worth 75% of the marks (max 10,000 words).

The employer will also be required to complete a short assessment on the student’s performance and attendance. While this assessment will not form part of the formal assessment, non or poor attendance during the obligatory 150 hours of relevant work experience could lead to withdrawal of the student’s class certificate.
