On this course, students will learn to identify and develop the non-academic impact of their philosophy research. They will learn a range of skills and techniques for engaging with the public, exchanging knowledge with organizations outside the university, and communicating their research to diverse audiences. Students will develop engagement and impact activities and develop links with outside organizations based on their own research interests, with guidance and training from academic staff and public engagement experts.

On this course, students will learn to identify and develop the non-academic impact of their philosophy research. They will learn a range of skills and techniques for engaging with the public, exchanging knowledge with organizations outside the university, and communicating their research to diverse audiences. Students will develop engagement and impact activities and develop links with outside organizations based on their own research interests, with guidance and training from academic staff and public engagement experts. Topics to be covered include designing an impact-oriented research project; writing an impact statement; knowledge exchange; engaging with non-academic audiences; and evaluating and assessing the impact of research.

Students will do a poster presentation at the day-long course conference. In the presentation they reflect on their project, engagement activities, and knowledge exchange, and evaluate the impact of their activities. They will be assessed on the oral presentation and the poster, a copy of which must be submitted before the conference takes place. Informal feedback will be given through peer discussion at the conference. Formal feedback will be given by teaching staff on the standard feedback form, with further oral feedback available if requested. |

Students will do a public presentation in a venue that they have identified through their knowledge exchange contacts, or through an event organized by the course organizer. They will also submit a PowerPoint or outline. Informal feedback will be given through peer discussion at the event. Formal feedback will be given by teaching staff on the standard feedback form, with further oral feedback available if requested. |

Students will write a short piece communicating the outcomes of their research to a broad audience. It will be posted on the course blog, and could optionally be submitted for publication in other venues. Informal feedback will be given through peer comments on the course blog.
