Course Overview

This course is tailored to provide you with research skills with a focus on problem solving and team working experience. A PPME project (Project Planning and Management Exercise) is performed, which asks for planning, managing and results delivery for teams of 2-3 students. Project topics revolve around environmental and analytical work. Workshop style assignments are held; information prioritising, (short notice briefing on an analytical problem) and writing a grant proposal for a long term investigation. The course contains laboratory classes and workshops. Oral presentations and scientific writing are part of the course assessment.

Course Description

A group of 2-3 work on project planning, method development, validation and writing SOPs in a PPME (Project Planning Management Exercise) in which the managing group designs the project and writes tasks list for a sub-contracting group, who reports back to the managing group. Every managing group is the subcontractor for the other project. Possible project/ topics: market survey of trace elements in bottled water; structure eludication protocols for marine bioactive compounds; applying forensic analysis to a real world senario Workshop style assignments: information priortization (short notice briefing on an analytical problem), writing a grant proposal for long term investigation plan. Course will contain practical lab classes and workshops.
