Course Overview

Increasingly carers, teachers and lecturers are expected to take responsibility for aspects of curriculum and careers guidance and the preparation of their youngsters for lifelong learning, education for work and enterprise.

This module would benefit all education staff, community and health workers whose daily work impinges on such areas.

The module covers aspects of all areas below:

  • Gaining knowledge, competence and confidence to give curricular and vocational advice
  • Team approaches to planning and experiential delivery of careers education
  • Supporting development towards skills for life and work within a philosophy of enterprise

Course Description

• the changing society, concepts of work, careers and lifelong learning

• concepts and theoretical aspects of careers/vocational choice and enterprise education

• policies supporting careers information/guidance/education and enterprise

• cross curricular aspects and the contribution of subject departments to education for the world of work, curriculum and career guidance

• the design and delivery of the careers education programme including resources

• special focus delivery, lesson planning and supporting self-awareness

• preparation for the world of work including work experience, lifelong learning and enterprise education

• liaison and partnership working with agencies

• structured interviews, profiling, and computerised monitoring and tracking programmes

• curriculum and careers guidance inventories/software/databases and websites

&bull quality assurance and identification of enterprise development

• supporting transition stages, including subject choice procedures,

This course is open to teachers, lecturers and other professionals with appropriate qualifications and experience working within an educational or education related context. A reasonable ability in ICT will be necessary to cope with online learning delivery

Summative Assessments

Each module assessment will now include two formatives, each allocated 25% of the final grade with 50% of the assessment grade allocated to the summative submission. This will be equivalent to 8,000 words as required for all PGT 30 credit modules and account for a range of assessment reporting formats which will remain criteria based.
