Course Overview

Enables students to increase and enhance their understanding of atmospheric, aquatic and terrestrial environmental pollution issues;

Addresses the management, monitoring and control of environmental pollutants;

Allows students to engage with stake holders from a number of different sectors;

Uses both qualitative and quantitative data to understand the impact of environmental pollutants.

  • Classification and impacts of contaminants of concern in terrestrial systems.
  • Application of risk assessment models in environmental diagnostics.
  • Sources and effects of water pollution.
  • Monitoring and assessment approaches.
  • Regulation and control of water (freshwater/marine) pollution.
  • Harm caused by atmospheric pollution.
  • Measurement and interpretation of data associated with atmospheric pollution.
  • Pollution mitigation and sustainable development.

The assessment for this course is 100% continual assessment. The assessments are based on three assignments related to the practical sessions.
