Course Overview

The course provides an introduction to project management and is aimed at students who expect to be working in a project related environment or are considering a potential move into project management.

The course covers a number of key aspects of project management from the project managers perspective and so whilst it does cover areas such as planning and estimating it is NOT intended to prepare students for such roles.

Students are expected to apply their learning by completing a piece of group project work.

Course Description

The course provides an introduction to project management and is aimed at students who expect to be working in a project related environment or are considering a potential move into project management.

The course covers a number of key aspects of project management from the project managers perspective and so whilst it does cover areas such as planning and estimating it is NOT intended to prepare students for such roles.

Students are expected to demonstrate an ability to apply their learning by completing a piece of group project work culminating in the production of a detailed project proposal suitable for approval of funding.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 30 August 2024 for 1st term courses and 20 December 2024 for 2nd term courses.

Summative Assessments

1st attempt: One three-hour written examination (60%) plus continuous assessment (40%).

Re-Sit: The re-sit will comprise of re-doing the failed element/s (exam and/or coursework assessment/s) from the 1st attempt with a maximum CGS mark of D3. The marks for other elements (successfully passed) will be carried over. Resit mark of either RP or RF will be recorded.

Where the 1st attempt consisted of a Group Project, the re-sit will comprise of an individual assignment.

Feedback

Feedback will be provided to students in written and/or verbal format as follows

·         In response to questions and issues raised by students during lectures

·         As part of group activities which take place during lectures

·         During tutorials/Feedback sessions

·         Following submission of summative and formative coursework

Students requiring feedback on exam performance should make an appointment during the scheduled feedback session which will be announced within 4 weeks of the publication of the exam results

In addition, any student or group of students may request feedback on any course related matter or assignment by arrangement with the course co-ordinator and/or individual contributors as appropriate.
