Course Description

This course will be delivered through lectures/seminars and practical workshops. It will cover topics on defining a research question, developing criteria for including studies, literature searching, data extraction and risk of bias assessment, data analysis (including meta-analysis), interpreting and reporting results.

Lectures/seminars will take place on Wednesday mornings (one to two hours each morning).  In the afternoon, this will be followed by practical workshops to give students a hands-on experience for developing the relevant skills for conducting systematic reviews of healthcare interventions. During the practical sessions, students will become familiar with electronic bibliographic databases, used for literature searching, and statistical softwares such as SPSS and Review Manager. The course will be assessed using both a multiple choice class test (40%), and a written assessment (60%).
