This course aims to provide you with a thorough understanding of research methods and statistics in psychology. In addition, students will engage with four interactive asynchronous workshops to support understanding and skills development.

This course will introduce you to the use of basic as well as more advanced descriptive and inferential statistics for data analysis in psychology. Both quantitative and qualitative research methods will be covered, and you will gain an understanding of the key concepts and issues in psychological research and study design. Furthermore, this course provides you with the essential data handling and visualisation skills required for psychological research. This includes basic and more advanced inferential methods (t-tests, ANOVAs, correlation and regression methods) as well as an introduction to qualitative research and questionnaire design.

Students will be asked to record a 10 min recorded presentation (max 10 slides) presenting a research proposal that includes theoretical background, hypothesis, methods, ethical awareness, data analysis plan, and potential implications and evaluation of strengths/weaknesses of the overall research design. |

Students will work in asynchronous tutorial groups on 4 research methods worksheets (worth 15% each). In tutorial groups they will work together to complete a worksheet where formative feedback will be provided. Individually they will complete a summative worksheet based on the same workshop topic. Summative worksheets are marked automatically. |
