Supporting the Health and Wellbeing of Young Children is a 30-credit course for students working in early learning and childcare. Course Description

  • 30-credit course for students working in early learning and childcare contexts.
  • Focuses on children’s health and wellbeing within family, community, and policy contexts.
  • Explores key frameworks including GIRFEC, SHANARRI, and the UNCRC.
  • Examines current issues such as inclusion, equity, poverty, mental health, and wellbeing.
  • Emphasises ethical, rights-based, and inclusive professional practice.
  • Supports engagement with policy, research, and professional guidance.
  • Strongly practice-based, drawing on students’ own settings and communities.
  • Structured over ten weeks with guided learning and formative activities.
  • Students investigate local or online wellbeing supports for families.
  • Assessment involves designing a community information resource and family engagement activity.
  • Students reflect on professional learning and practice through a short video presentation.
  • Develops reflective practice and identifies areas for professional development.
