Course Overview

On this course, students will learn to identify and develop the non-academic impact of their philosophy research. They will learn a range of skills and techniques for engaging with the public, exchanging knowledge with organizations outside the university, and communicating their research to diverse audiences. Students will develop engagement and impact activities suitable for outside organizations and based on their own research interests, with guidance and training from academic staff and public engagement experts.

Course Description

On this course, students will learn to identify and develop the non-academic impact of their philosophy research. They will learn a range of skills and techniques for engaging with the public, exchanging knowledge with organizations outside the university, and communicating their research to diverse audiences. Students will develop engagement and impact activities suitable for outside organizations and based on their own research interests, with guidance and training from academic staff and public engagement experts. Topics to be covered include designing an impact-oriented research project; writing an impact statement; knowledge exchange; engaging with non-academic audiences; and evaluating and assessing the impact of research.


Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 31 August 2025 for 1st Term courses and 19 December 2025 for 2nd Term courses.
