This course provides teachers and practitioners with the opportunity to explore a range of research, theory and pedagogy that is supportive of an inclusive, play-based environment. Students will explore the principles and practices of inclusive play pedagogy and their role in this complex, engaging and meaningful environment; emphasising the importance of creating play spaces that celebrate diversity and promote a sense of belonging for all children. Learning on this module will be underpinned by relevant policy, international research and opportunities to enquire within the setting in which participants are professionally employed.

Reflective Essay: Inclusive Play Pedagogy and Spaces Analyse the historical and theoretical foundations of play pedagogy and how this has impacted on current legislation, policy and practice with a focus on facilitating inclusive learning experiences. Use this analysis to reflect on your own setting, outlining a plan for change within one space in the setting. Within your plan you should consider the ‘voice of the child’ and how they had involvement, choice and agency over planned changes. Written feedback will be provided. |

As part of your presentation, you should evaluate the plan, design, and utilisation of a pedagogical play space, justifying its effectiveness in terms of inclusive practice and the curriculum. You should draw on examples from practice to demonstrate your ability to engage and motivate young children in play-based learning opportunities. The voice of the child should thread through your exemplification to enhance justification.
