Course Overview

This stand-alone course is to be offered as CPD to both primary and secondary teachers and covers key fundamental principles and underpinning theory to equip you to safely and effectively implement mindfulness in your classroom.  Reviewing best practise in areas such as ethics, safeguarding and dealing with adverse and religious affects, along with the underpinning purpose, science and impacts of a range of common practises you can build an informed mindfulness strategy and a mindful teacher presence for your classroom.

Course Description


Your course is divided into module, each one focussing in an area of study related to mindfulness in the classroom. They blend academic and experiential learning, enabling you to both understand and experience mindfulness.
You’ll explore a range of mindfulness and heartfulness practises focussing on their purpose, method, benefits and underpinning science, informing your selection of apps or organisations providing mindfulness resources and strategies for the classroom.
You’ll develop skills and awareness of best practise to safely and effectively integrate mindfulness into your classroom, enhancing learning and wellbeing.
You will learn how to positively impact relationships with peers and pupils and address stress through mindful presence.
With your tutors’ help, you’ll learn to apply mindfulness to your presence in the classroom, supporting the development of good relationships

The six modules you’ll study are:

•Cultivating Mindfulness - A review of practises
•Cultivating Heartfulness - A review of practises
•Mindful Teacher Presence
•Integrating Mindfulness into the classroom
•Best Practise and impacts of mindfulness

By the end of this course, you’ll be able to…
•Be informed and aware of the purpose, benefits and science behind a range of mindfulness practises
•Evaluate the strengths and limitations of a range of mindfulness resources and apps by drawing on neurobiological research.
•Apply your understanding of best practise in mindfulness to the safe and effective implementation of mindfulness and wellbeing n your classroom.
•Apply your learning and practise to the development of your mindful presence and professional practice in the classroom.
•Provide a professional enquiry report on an area of interest in mindfulness in the classroom. (credited course only)

Assessments (credited course only)
This course is assessed entirely online via 2 equally weighted assessments:
•A recorded presentation on the purpose, benefit and science underpinning mindfulness and heartfulness practises
•1,500 word reflection on potential implications identified for the implementation of mindfulness in the classroom


Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 31 August 2023 for 1st half-session courses and 22 December 2023 for 2nd half-session courses.
