The outer level is leadership in a wider context, taking an organisational view on how your role as a leader can support the achievement of your team through motivating and engaging them to succeed.

This course is directed at anyone keen to enhance their knowledge of the tools, techniques and models used by successful business developers. It will be especially useful for those of you who are interested in strengthening your skills for identifying and evaluating business opportunities. You shall be introduced to a diverse range of ways to innovate effectively. You will explore what is meant by innovation, learning the different types and forms it can take and applying these to business environments. Likewise, for you as an individual, developments in aspects of your personal and professional life will often require you to change. This might mean acquiring new knowledge, skills and approaches, especially in relation to your employability and career. By understanding more about the context and dynamics of change as well as the differing interpretations and reactions to change, you will be in a better position personally and professionally. An ability to recognise why there may be resistance to change will enable you to develop practical actions that can effectively facilitate and lead it. In an ever-evolving world, where change is rapid and constant, the capacity to navigate and implement change successfully can be crucial to your business’ survival.

You will then explore a range of leadership case studies to explore how and why different decisions are made depending on situation, context and past experience. Towards the end of the course, you will consider your own professional development and look at future business trends.

Writing insightful reports that both engage and persuade the reader is a key skill. In a finance setting this is not just about the words but also careful use of well communicated numbers. The aim of this course is for you to produce a 5,000 word report using appropriate communication devise (graphs, tables) to evaluate critically a corporate finance situation of your choosing. The result should demonstrate your research, thinking, presentation and organisational skills.
