Course Overview

This course introduces students to the field of global health and develops skills to critically appraise organisations, actors, debates and data. Teaching material will cover: ket definitions and terminology; institutions, practitioners and scholars in global health; and key drivers and challenges in the global health field. Students will learn about established and emerging topics, how these intersect with broader social, economic and political factors, and how research can make credible contributions in this context.

Course Description

Course Aims:

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the field of global health. It will cover the key drivers and challenges in global health, as well as key institutions, practitioners and scholars. The overall purpose is to develop the student's awareness, and self-reflection, on the diverse and dynamic field of global health, and how to make meaningful contributions in this context.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of this course students will be able to:

  1. Identify, define and contextualise basic terminology and concepts in global health.
  2. Identify and describe key institutions, practitioners and scholars in global health.
  3. Explain key drivers and challenges in global health.

Details, including assessments, may be subject to change until 31 August 2023 for 1st half-session courses and 22 December 2023 for 2nd half-session courses.
