The research project is the climax of the MSc programme and involves working on an independent research project for 12 weeks prior to completion of a write up in the style of an article for publication. It involves utilisation of much of the skills developed throughout the previous 2 semesters, and is selected based on student interests and preferences from a list of options.

The research project is conducted under the supervision of a research active member of the teaching team in either a laboratory, clinical or library setting. It aims to develop a high level of investigative understanding amongst students providing an opportunity to put much of the learning and teaching experienced through the programme to use. Topics vary depending upon project offerings, with a wide variety of interests represented.
Students are assessed across a variety of different styles with an opportunity to present work orally, and in written formats.
Research projects are selected from a list of topics relevant to your degree programme, which have been submitted by potential supervisors. Project titles, together with background information and key references, will be available to you at the beginning of the second half-session. You should read the information on each project carefully, select the topics of most interest to you and make arrangements directly with supervisors to discuss their projects. Each student will then be allocated to a research project shortly thereafter.
Students with particular research opportunities should approach supervisors early in the academic year and have the opportunity to submit a co-written research project.
The actual time spent on the research project will be about 16 weeks, which includes time to write the final report article.
Information on contact teaching time is available from the course guide.
