FR2512: ADVANCED INTRODUCTORY FRENCH LANGUAGE 2 (2023-2024)

Building on work done in FR 2012, the course will develop further language skills, both receptive (aural comprehension capacity through tuition based on video material; reading comprehension through analysis of written French and translation into English) and productive (translation into French and oral language). Classes on grammatical and linguistic analysis will contribute to the development of both sets of skills. An additional grammar hour covers areas of grammar not covered in previous courses. In addition students will complete a structured self learning programme of aural study and grammatical reinforcement study.
Assessment will be based on a 2-hour written examination (75%) and an oral examination (25%). The written examination will consist of a prose and a Use of French exercise. The oral examination will test both comprehension and productive skills. However, satisfactory performance in the course work assessments will qualify students for exemption from the examination. In order to gain exemption, students must obtain overall a minimum grade of C3.
