Course Description

This course is intended for students who have studied French to the equivalent of Scottish Higher or beyond. Building on the work done in the first semester, it seeks to enable students to consolidate and extend their knowledge of French, written and spoken. It presents certain advanced grammatical structures and introduces techniques of translation. It also offers students opportunities to improve their communication skills in the wider sense through group work, discussion and presentations. The course will develop greater receptive and productive language skills through four weekly classes: one grammar lecture; one written language hour; an oral class and a listening comprehension class. In addition, students will complete a programme of private study, including listening materials and grammatical work.
