The course is designed to provide the student with the opportunity to carry out a project with an approved industrial partner and to provide the student with the opportunity of:

Students are allocated a project to be undertaken with an approved industry partner with which University of Aberdeen has an existing bilateral agreement. The project will be mainly supervised by a member of the industry staff with academic supervision from a University of Aberdeen academic staff member. The project will normally be in the student's area of professional interest. Projects can be drawn from theoretical, computational, design, experimental, and field work. In all cases aspects of project planning, written and oral communication are included.
The students are also expected by the end of their projects (note that depending on the topic of the project and the industrial partner the students may cover some or all of the following) to have the knowledge and understanding of the division they are in (SWOT analysis or similar); what leading edge technology does the company utilise; the role of the engineer in society; corporate codes of practice, health, safety rules as related to the project; corporate security guidance; and to be able to adopt a holistic and proportionate approach to the mitigation of security risks and inclusive approach to engineering practice and recognise the responsibilities, benefits and importance of supporting equality, diversity, and inclusion.
